Before the pandemic, the live music industry was on track to generate over 30 billion dollars in 2020. When the pandemic hit and venues were not allowed to hold any events, that number went down to 6.5 billion dollars. The live music industry makes up 34% of the overall music industry. This hit lead to many venues being either permanently closed or being picked up by larger companies such as Live Nation. 95% of workers at independent music venues were either let go or underwent furlough. So yeah, times were tough for the industry.

There was some relief that came in and artists that used their platform in order to raise funds and awareness for the struggling industry. 15 billion dollars of the COVID relief package went towards the “Save Our Stages” Act which funded venues in the brick of bankruptcy. This relief does provide some assistance but there is still a long road ahead.

Helping in the long road back to recovery is paarti. Paarti is a new social platform that seeks to connect its members through music. They are held “The Beat Goes Live”, a 48-hour livestreaming event in order to raise money for these struggling venues. The event brought together 13 venues from all over the world and over 25 artists. Some of the venues that are included in this event are: Cavo Paradiso, Versuz, Noa Beach Club, Tenax, Club der Visionaere, and PRIVILEGE IBIZA which is the world’s largest music venue according to Guinness Book of Records. The line-up included DJs such as 3LAU, Gramatik, DJ Luciano, UMEK, YVES V, Binaryh, and many others.

When the pandemic hit live entertainment was the first industry to go and it will be the last to return but with initiatives like these, I’m more than sure the industry will come back stronger than ever.
